Pool prices in Cyprus: building, care and repairsWhat building a pool in Cyprus involves
Also called: pool construction · pool builders · pool companies · fiberglass / fibreglass pool · prefab pool · infinity pool
A new pool needs planning and building permits. Builders here usually allow 4 to 12 weeks for the permit and 3 to 5 months from the application to a pool you can swim in; adding a pool to an existing house can take longer. A pool without a permit can hold up title deeds, a mortgage or a sale.
Most pools on the island are reinforced concrete with a skimmer: the water sits a few centimetres below the edge and the skimmers in the wall take leaves and dust off the top. In an overflow (infinity) pool the water comes up to the brim and runs over the edge into a channel and a balance tank; it costs about half as much again for the same size. A prefab fiberglass (fibreglass) shell arrives in one piece on a truck and goes in faster, but only in sizes that fit on the road and through your gate.
The size sets the base of the price and the plot moves it. Can a digger reach the spot, or does the earth come out by hand? Is it soil or rock under the garden? Does the pool sit on a slope that needs a retaining wall? Heating, a cover, lights, a salt system and the paving around it come on top. That is why a serious company gives a range first and a fixed price only after it has seen the site.
The form here asks the size, skimmer or overflow, concrete or prefab, the extras and whether machinery can get in, with "Not sure" on every technical question. Then you pick a time for a site visit, a pool builder who works in your area comes to measure, and you get their quote. You agree the price with the builder and pay them directly.
Skimmer, overflow or prefab
- Concrete, skimmer
- The usual villa pool on the island. Any size and shape; the water sits a few centimetres below the edge
- Concrete, overflow (infinity)
- Water level with the edge, a channel round it and a balance tank. About 50% more than a skimmer pool of the same size; makes sense on a slope or facing a view
- Prefab fiberglass shell
- One piece, goes in faster. Sizes limited by road transport and the way into the garden; often lifted in by crane
- Above-ground pool
- About €3,300–5,700 for one 9 m across. No digging
