Who books a pool inspection, and what they get

Three kinds of owner book this. Someone buying a house with a pool who wants to know what they are taking on. Someone opening the pool in spring after a winter with the pump off. And someone who sees the water level dropping or hears the pump straining and does not know where to start.

The technician tests the water, runs the pump and reads the filter pressure, checks the skimmers, the returns, the lights and the heat pump if there is one, and looks for signs of a leak. On the island they also look for scale from hard water and for a liner worn by the sun: the UV index reaches 11 in July, and a liner lasts 10 to 15 years.

You get a list of what is fine, what needs fixing now and what can wait, and the company can price the work on it. You decide what to do and with whom. A leak test is a separate job, usually €250–400, and a new liner starts around €3,000, which is why a check before you buy is worth it.

How it works

1

Describe the job

A few questions instead of a phone call. Photos help the company understand it before coming.

2

A local company takes it

We pass the request to a pool company that works in your area. Your request page shows when they accept.

3

Agree the price with them

They come, look, and agree the price with you. You pay the company directly for the work.

Questions

Should I have the pool checked before buying a house in Cyprus?

Yes, if you can. A leak, a worn liner or a tired pump can cost thousands: a new liner from about €3,000, structural repairs from €5,000. One visit tells you what you are buying.

When is the best time to check a pool?

Before the season, in March or April, so any repairs are done by the time you swim. Or as soon as something looks wrong.

Does the inspection include the repairs?

No. You get the list and can ask the company to price the work; you decide whether to go ahead and with whom.

How do I know if my pool is losing too much water?

In a Cyprus summer the sun takes 5–8 mm a day. Losing more than about 5 cm a week usually means a leak; mention it in the form.
