How much water a pool holds
Length times width times average depth. A pool that is 1.2 m at the shallow end and 1.8 m at the deep end averages about 1.5 m. Here are the usual sizes on the island and the water truck loads they need, at about 25 m³ a load.
4×3 m
Average depth: 1.3 m
Water: About 16 m³
Water truck loads: 1 (part load)
6×3 m

Swimming pool water delivery: how the water truck works
A water truck carries about 22 tonnes, roughly 25 m³ a load, according to one delivery firm's description of its service. The driver pulls up as close as he can and runs a hose to the pool. If the house is down a narrow lane, say in the old part of a village above Paphos, ask how long the hose is before you book.
On prices, owners on a Cyprus forum report about €100 a load and two loads for a typical villa pool, and one paid €200 for the pool plus a 2.2-tonne house tank. Those posts are undated, so treat them as a rough idea and ask for a current price. We also found a Nicosia supplier that lists pool water delivery but publishes no prices. For pool water delivery in Limassol and elsewhere, ask the supplier where the water comes from as well.
Filling from the mains: the Limassol tariff
The mains looks cheaper until you see how the bill works. In Limassol the water board (EOA Lemesos) charges per four-month period: €0.90 a cubic metre up to 40 m³, €1.43 for 41–80, €2.45 for 81–120 and €5.00 for everything above 120, plus €22 fixed. A fill on top of the household's own use lands in the upper bands. The table shows what the 48 m³ for an 8×4 m pool cost, depending on how much the house had already used in that period.
0 m³
Cost of 48 m³ for the pool: About €47
40 m³
Cost of 48 m³ for the pool: About €77
80 m³
Cost of 48 m³ for the pool: About €138
120 m³ or more
Cost of 48 m³ for the pool: About €240
| Used before the fill (4 months) | Cost of 48 m³ for the pool |
|---|---|
| 0 m³ | About €47 |
| 40 m³ | About €77 |
| 80 m³ | About €138 |
| 120 m³ or more | About €240 |
The €22 fixed charge is on the bill either way. Nicosia, Larnaca and the community water boards have their own tariffs, which we have not compared, so check your last bill to see where you stand.
Is filling a pool allowed during the drought?
2025 was the driest year in Cyprus since 1901, as Cyprus Mail reported. The Water Development Department has said it has always opposed drinking water for pools, and in December 2025 it was discussing seawater for hotels and new developments. We found no formal ban on filling a private pool from the mains for 2024 to 2026. Rules can change in a dry summer, so check with your water board before you open the tap.
Evaporation, covers and top-ups
After the fill, the sun keeps taking its share. In peak season a pool loses 5–8 mm a day, which for an 8×4 m pool is 0.16–0.26 m³ a day, about 5–8 m³ a month. A property portal's August 2026 guide puts the water for top-ups at €4–60 a month. A cover cuts evaporation, which is most of a pool's water use, and the pool company prices one after the site visit.
A top-up is a hose job. The truck is for a first fill or a refill after the pool was emptied for a repair. If your level drops by more than about 5 cm a week, read our guide on whether the pool is losing water to a leak.
New water also needs balancing before anyone swims. One Paphos pool company notes that calcium hardness in pools there is often above 400 ppm, which leaves white scale on the tile line. The company that looks after the pool tests and adjusts the water after the fill.
- 8×4 private pool, in season
- €80–150 a month
- One visit on a weekly plan
- about €45, chemicals included (one company's list)
- One visit every two weeks
- about €60, chemicals included
- Chemicals, when not in the price
- €25–40 a month
- Holiday villa, daily service
- from €190 a month
- Communal pool of a complex
- €280–650 a month
What pool companies on the island charge, from their own price lists, property guides and listings (October 2026); VAT is not always included. The company that takes your request names the exact price once it has seen the pool.
New pool? Ask for the first fill in the quote
When you ask pool companies to quote a new pool, ask them to include the first fill and the start-up chemicals, and to say whether they use a water truck or the mains. For an 8×4 m pool that is two truck loads, so a quote that leaves it out is about €200 short at forum prices.
