What a pool maintenance visit includes

Also called: pool maintenance · pool cleaning · pool service · pool cleaner

A visit takes the leaves and dust off the top, vacuums the floor, brushes the walls and the waterline, empties the skimmer and pump baskets, backwashes the filter when the pressure says so, then tests the water and doses chlorine and pH. Every few weeks the technician also looks over the pump, the salt cell if you have one, and anything that drips or hums.

From May to October a pool on the island needs more. A family pool in daily use usually gets two visits a week in summer and one a week in winter. Saharan dust can use up the chlorine in less than a day, a 40 °C week brings algae fast, and in July the sun takes 5 to 8 mm of water a day. The tap water is hard in many areas, Paphos most of all, so scale builds on the tiles and in the equipment unless someone watches the calcium.

Ask whether chemicals are in the price. Some companies include them and others charge €25–40 a month on top, which is most of the gap between two quotes. Say if the house is a holiday let, so the visits can fall before arrivals. You don't need to be home: the company needs a way in to the pool and the pump room, and most owners leave a gate code.

Questions

How much is pool cleaning a month in Cyprus?

For an 8×4 private pool, €80–150 a month in season is the usual range; one company lists €45 a visit on a weekly plan with chemicals included. A bigger pool, a remote village or daily visits cost more.

How often should a pool be cleaned in summer?

Twice a week from May to October for a pool the family uses every day, once a week in winter. A quiet pool with a cover can manage with less.

Are the chemicals included?

It depends on the company. Ask before you agree: when they are not in the price, chemicals add €25–40 a month.

Do I need to be home for the visits?

No. The company needs a way in to the pool and the pump room; most owners leave a gate code or a key.

Does the 2025 pool law apply to my holiday let?

The pool law of 2025 (137(I)/2025) counts a villa let to holidaymakers as a Type 3 pool: you notify the local authority, with no operating permit or lifeguard needed. A private pool that serves up to five homes and is used by the owner, family and guests is outside the law.
